Pickling and Oiling
Pickling is a treatment applied
to the surface of steel strip to clean and remove the scale that is an
inherent feature of hot rolled steel strip. This is achieved by the
use of acid which is subsequently washed to stop ongoing chemical
action. Oil is then applied to protect the surface of the strip from
oxidation
Slitting
The commonest method of slitting
steel strip is known as "shear slitting". In this method the steel is
cut by the operation of two rotary knives that operate as a scissor.

Decoiling The
decoiling process involves the unwinding of steel coil. This is passed
through roller levellers and on to a flat bed where the material is
cut in to strips or lengths. |
