I agree Graham, regarding the source of the CS increase, and the current attititude of the hot rolling mills.

What remains to be seen is how long this attitude will prevail, while Western European demand remains subdued.

Our Experience is that continental CS manufacturers are having to take a firm line on the price increases in the face of an increase in the price of Arcelor Mittal HR coil of €230 per ton from 1st July .German mills are applying a similar level of increase so it is inevitable that carbon steel cs coil and mild steel Cs coil will increase by a similar amount.Whilst the natural inclination is to resist such price hikes the attitude from the mills is take it or leave it.

We seem to be on track to have the same problem over here in the US. Over taxation of business, expensive labor cost due to unions, and environmental regulations are making manufacturing less and less viable. More and more companies are having to close up shop every year due to this work being shifted to countries like China. It may take decades, but I think that things are going to get worse for all modern countries until the standards of living in these other countries equalizes out with ours.

Once we were the workshop of the world, now our manufacturing industry is the laughing stock of Europe, there are no real manufacturers left to make the goods that we need to export ourselves out of trouble.

Since before the Thatcher years the fertile ground of manufacturing has been polluted by legislation vigorously enforced, and unfair taxation, who wants to employ an expensive workforce to manufacture goods into an unstable market place.

Do we have any manufacturing direction left in the UK?

is anyone surprised anymore? its been happening for years that foreign companies buy out our companies and then asset strip.I lost2 jobs because of foreign take overs and our lilly livered weak kneed government are the worst of the lot. selling the family silver for a pittance. take the gold reserves I would bet money the government cleaned up in back handers with that one. we need to force through laws that do not allow these practices and make sure that the punishment is worse than the crime. perhaps I need to be a dictator for a few years to sort out all this dispicable behavior both from industrialists and Government

Absolutely digraceful. It is time we had politicians in power who have woken up to this euro-scam and started looking after OUR national interests.
