EU attacks ‘Buy American’ clause
The EU has increased its pressure on the US to reconsider the "Buy American" clause in the $800bn (£567bn) economic recovery package now before Congress.
The clause seeks to ensure that only US iron, steel and manufactured goods are used in projects funded by the bill.

AK calls back workers for furnace start-up
A total of 525 hourly workers are being recalled at AK Steel Corp.’s Ashland Works plant as of today, Feb. 2, as the company prepares to restart the blast furnace there.

Calgary steel firm lays off 270 workers
A Calgary steelmaker handed out permanent layoff notices to about 270 workers in the city this week after a temporary shutdown in January.
