Rebirth Of Steelworks Site Hit By Rising Cost Of Steel

A major building project on the site of a former Scottish steelworks is to be delayed - because of increases in the price of steel.
Work was due to start on Ravenscraig Sports Centre in Motherwell early this summer. However, rising costs have forced the development to be redesigned to keep within budget. The delay will [...]

Why the future, could be made in Britain

I came across this interesting article in the guardian.co.uk, by Tim Webb and Heather Stewart.  For years I have been of the opinion the successive Governments "free market, at all costs" attitude has been something of a "double edged sword". Anyway, it seems that in the once thriving steel area of Sharon, feelings are running high on the impact Chinese imports have had on the local steel industry.
SHARON, Pa. — In the [...]

International steel prices continue to rise, with record price hikes in the US (MEPS Report)

US transaction prices are going through the roof with gains over the last four weeks as high as $US145 per tonne for some products and more substantial hikes planned by the mills for June deliveries. Domestic values have now caught up with average world prices. Although real demand is no more than satisfactory as the [...]

Steel Specifications

Searching for details of steel specifications on the web can be frustrating. General search engines do a good job of general searches and can return highly relevant results on many subjects. The practice however of naming steel specifications by a sequence of letters and numbers can make it difficult for the searches to return the [...]

China closing steel mills for a blue sky Olympics

Chinese steel mills around Beijing are holding out for subsidies in return for agreeing to shut down or reduce operations during the Olympic Games in August, the head of the China Iron and Steel Association said on Tuesday.
Determined to crown the Games with blue skies, Beijing has already ordered its top polluter, Shougang Steel, as [...]
