Jobs safeguarded as coal pit sold
Nearly 500 jobs have been safeguarded after one of the UK’s last remaining deep coal mines was sold.
Maltby Colliery, near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, has been sold by UK Coal to one of its biggest customers, Hargreaves Services, for £21.5m.

Global steel prices rising
I have been seeing reports for the past month of price rises in Europe, India and China. The latest MEPS report notes that Nucor are increasing prices from March by $US20 on the back of rising costs and increasing demand, particularly for hot rolled. Pressure is building up on Canadian prices too, with imports reducing.
