Severstal offers Mittal £1bn for Corus Scunthorpe plant
SEVERSTAL, the Russian steel group, has approached Tata Steel with a £1bn ($1.95bn, €1.48bn) offer for Corus’s Scunthorpe plant, Britain’s biggest remaining steelmaking operation.
The move, confirmed by two separate sources, follows Tata’s victory over Brazil’s CSN in the £6.7bn auction for the Anglo-Dutch steelmaker.

AK Steel Increases Carbon Steel Prices
AK Steel said Wednesday that it will increase spot market prices for its carbon steel products by $40 per ton for all new orders accepted for shipment on April 1, 2007 and later.

Who will bid for Mittal Steel Plant?
There is speculation about possible bidders for Mittal’s Maryland Steel Plant. Mittal have been ordered to sell the plant by the US Justice department under antitrust laws. The recent takeover of Arcelor by Mittal created fears about competition.
