European steel makers strike deal
MOSCOW: Novolipetsk Steel, the Russian steel maker owned by the billionaire Vladimir Lisin, has agreed to form a $1.6 billion joint venture with Duferco Group of Switzerland to make and distribute steel in the United States and Europe. EU Sets Deadline to Rule on Corus Bid - MSN Money

Brazilians join Corus bid battle
BRAZIL’S Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) is expected to make a firm offer for Corus Group of around £4.25bn within the next two weeks, said sources last night.

UK Manufacturing Employment Lowest Since 1800s
UK manufacturing employment has hit its lowest level since 1841, according to a government survey released late Thursday.

MP warns of ‘green’ threat to steel jobs
MIDLAND manufacturers could be driven out of business by government plans to tackle climate change, an MP warned.
Adrian Bailey (Lab, West Bromwich West) said the steel and foundry industry in his constituency could suffer if extra costs were imposed.

Stelco warns of steel slump
