Arcelor to sue Mittal over copyright infringement?
So Arcelor are to drag Mittal to the US courts over copyright infringement. Allegedly Mittal have copied an automotive steel branded as Usibor. Heinz have announced that they are closing the Aston plant in Birmingham where HP sauce has been produced for a hundred years!

Global Steel production to rise in 2006
MEPS estimate for world crude steel output this year at 1176 million tonnes. This represents an increase of 4.1 percent over the 2005 outturn. General Motors considering UK job cuts
General Motors Europe is contemplating cutting 1,000 jobs at Vauxhall’s factory in Ellesmere Port, according to a report in The Sunday Times of 7 May, as it “struggles to reconcile investment plans for a new range of models with falling demand for the Vauxhall Astra shared by Ellesmere Port and Opel plants.

Knight Strip Metals to distribute Corus plated Strip
After considering a number of options, Corus has reached agreement with Knight Strip Metals to process and distribute their mild steel plated products produced at their US subsidiary. The strip is manufactured at the Apollo Metals plant in Bethlehem, Pensylvania, which produces high quality mirror finish steel and non ferrous electroplated strip.

AK Steel breakthrough in lock-out?

New “top man” at NASS
A West Midlands business executive has been appointed as new president of the National Association of Steel Stockholders after two decades in the steel industry.

Posco increase stainless price by 9%
Posco, the world’s fifth-largest steelmaker, increased the price of its stainless steel products as much as 9 percent because of the higher cost of nickel, a key raw material.
