Stainless steel manufacturer axes 230 jobs in Sheffield
HUNDREDS of jobs are to be axed at a Sheffield stainless steel giant as the credit crunch bites hard in South Yorkshire.
A total of 230 workers are to be made redundant at Outokumpu’s Sheffield Special Strip operation at Meadowhall.
The news will come as a bitter blow to workers who were reassured three years ago their jobs were safe when the company axed 130 jobs at the plant which produces very thin foils of stainless steel strip.

Every industry seems to be struggling in Sheffield I agree. The sooner these new offices go up and some more investment is ploughed in the better. In the current economic climate I feel sorry for the workers who will lose their jobs…
